Custer State Park, August 2021

A quick visit to Custer State Park in South Dakota provided some wildlife and scenic photo opportunities, as well as a chance to get out and camp. The campsite at Bismark Lake campground was one of the prettiest locations we have ever camped in. The weather started out very hot but for the last evening of the trip we experienced some dramatic lightning and rain.

    The elegant Ponderosa Pines were everywhere in the park, and provided a beautiful backdrop in almost every direction, especially in early morning light.

    A wonderful walk around a portion of Bismark Lake right near our campground yielded this small patch of colorful leaves right along the trail.
