1. Scenic/Travel Trip Based

AK Cruise, September 2017

The entire family took a week long cruise up the Alaskan panhandle in late September. Although the weather was not good for the majority of the trip, there were still some amazing sights to see.

  • Humpback Whale Diving

    Humpback Whale Diving

There were lots of whales to see on pour excursion boat that left out of Juneau. It took a combination of some practice and also some luck to catch one of the whales as it dove down deeper and exposed its tail.

  • Mendenhall Glacier

    Mendenhall Glacier

In addition to the great whale viewing, we also had as great view of Mendenhall Glacier and the surrounding mountains from the deck of our excursion boat near Juneau.

  • Claudia At Fish Bake Waterfall

The end of our whale watching excursion ended on shore, at a big salmon bake, near a picturesque waterfall.

  • Jack Peak, British Columbia

Jack Peak shows through low clouds, rising above Tutshi Lake in British Columbia as we take a day drive out of Skagway and up into Canada.

  • Bald Eagle on Dyea Road

An eagle stays perched in a tree right above the road long enough for a profile picture.

  • Margerie Glacier In The Rain

    Margerie Glacier In The Rain

The trip to Glacier Bay National Park was supposed to be the highlight of the trip, but the weather did not cooperate. The Margerie Glacier, the main attraction, was still impressive, but not what it could have been and the conditions made getting a representative image very hard.

  • What Might Have Been

    What Might Have Been

The 2nd glacier we visited was Lamplugh Glacier - which started out almost completed obscured by rain, fog, and mist. It eventually began to be slightly visible as we were pulling away. This heavily processed image gives a hint of just how amazing and colorful this scene could have been if we had only had better weather. Instead, it ended up looking more like a painting than an image from a high resolution camera.
