CA Coast, February 2011

I had an extra day before business meetings, and spent it driving The Cabrillo Highway (CA Route 1) from Santa Cruz down past Carmel. The weather was great, and there was so much to see I probably spent too much time driving and not enough time setting up pictures, but I had a great time nonetheless.

Rocky View - Headland Cove
One of the first impressive views I came to along the trail in Point Lobos Reserve
Single Cypress
I liked the hardy looking single cypress perched on this large rock.
Point Lobos Morning 'Blues'
I hit Point Lobos in late morning light, and after a short hike down the Cypress Grove Trail saw some spectacular colors in the water.
Long Exposure Beach
I played with a 10 stop ND filter on a beach near the elusive Garrapata State Park that I was never able to be sure I found. The waves were coming in pretty good, but the longer exposure changes the mood of the scene.

Fleeting Sunset
I went back to Point Lobos at the end of the day to try to capture the sunset. There was only a short moment of color before the sun went behind a band of clouds on the horizon.
