Athens

We flew into Athens on the last of 4 interconnecting flights (whew!), and after eating we just crashed for the rest of the day. We spent the next day and a half exploring the city, initially via the included bus tour and then eventually on foot. The city was a vast sprawling busy metropolis with little pockets of ancient ruins interspersed. With our limited time we didn't see nearly everything, and had no time to go to any adjoining parts of the mainland before we were off to our first island.

The Parthenon, Παρθενών (Greek), shot from a unique angle, shows the combination of original and restored stonework that makes up the famous structure today. That and the ever present scaffolding were testament to the condition of one of the oldest structures still able to be visited.
